麻薬犯 性転換で鞭打ち刑回避＝シンガポール

【新華社】 シンガポールの４０歳の麻薬犯が性転換によって鞭打ち刑を回避したと、現地紙『Ｔｈｅ Ｓｔｒａｉｔｓ Ｔｉｍｅｓ』（ザ・ストレーツ・タイムズ）が６日伝えた。この受刑者はもともと鞭打ちの刑に処されるはずだったが、女性に性転換したことで、５日、７年３カ月の禁固刑を言い渡された。
同紙が掲載した受刑者の写真を見ると、髪を肩までたらし、ひげを生やしているように見える。
シンガポールの法律によると、鞭打ち刑は強盗、麻薬犯、性犯罪などの犯罪者に適用されるが、女性と５０歳以上の男性は対象外となる。
同麻薬犯は１９９８年にモルヒネの使用で５年間の監禁と３回の鞭打ち刑を科せられた。その後、２００６年にタイで性転換手術を受けた。そして昨年１２月にメタンフェタミンとヘロインの使用で再逮捕された。
ＡＦＰの報道によると、同麻薬犯が性転換をしなければ、６〜１２回の鞭打ち刑が科される可能性があった。

Drug addict spared caning after sex change

A recalcitrant drug addict has been spared caning - because he is now a she.
Now going by the feminine name Preeta Nivashani M. Rechnam, the 40-year-old woman was last convicted as a man for consuming morphine in 1998. Because of his string of other drug offences, he was dealt the Long-Term Imprisonment 1, or LT1, sentence of five years and three strokes of the cane.
In 2006, he underwent a sex-change operation in Thailand.
On Monday, she was jailed seven years and three months for consuming Ice.
