ホモフォビアは同性愛興奮と関連するか？
筆者らは、同性愛者に対して否定的感情を有することを認める異性愛者における、同性愛興奮の役割を調査した。被験者はホモフォビックな男性グループ(n = 35)と、ホモフォビックでない男性グループ (n = 29)より構成された。グループ分けはホモフォビア尺度(W. W. Hudson & W. A. Ricketts, 1980)の点数によって行われた。被験者たちは、性的にあからさまな、異性愛、男性同性愛、女性同性愛の、性的刺激のあるビデオテープを見せられた。その際、陰茎周の長さの変化が測定された。被験者はまた、攻撃性質問紙表(A. H. Buss & M. Perry, 1992)にも答えた。両グループともに、異性愛および女性同性愛ビデオに対し、陰茎周の増大を認めた。男性同性愛ビデオに対しては、ホモフォビック男性グループのみが陰茎勃起の増大を示した。攻撃性に関しては両グループに違いはなかった。ホモフォビック男性が気づいていないあるいは否定している同性愛興奮に、観察上はホモフォビアは関連している。

Is homophobia associated with homosexual arousal?

The authors investigated the role of homosexual arousal in exclusively heterosexual men who admitted negative affect toward homosexual individuals. Participants consisted of a group of homophobic men (n = 35) and a group of nonhomophobic men (n = 29); they were assigned to groups on the basis of their scores on the Index of Homophobia (W. W. Hudson & W. A. Ricketts, 1980). The men were exposed to sexually explicit erotic stimuli consisting of heterosexual, male homosexual, and lesbian videotapes, and changes in penile circumference were monitored. They also completed an Aggression Questionnaire (A. H. Buss & M. Perry, 1992). Both groups exhibited increases in penile circumference to the heterosexual and female homosexual videos. Only the homophobic men showed an increase in penile erection to male homosexual stimuli. The groups did not differ in aggression. Homophobia is apparently associated with homosexual arousal that the homophobic individual is either unaware of or denies.
