After removal of the rectum and placement of a stoma, it is common to have the sensation of a “_phantom rectum”with a constant urge to defecate. The feeling is similar to phantom limb pain, phantom breast syndrome after mastectomy, and phantom vagina after pelvic exenteration. 20.30.31
